On Friday, April 5, 2019, the DC universe released a new version of the movie “Shazam” (PG 13), starring Buena alum Zachary Levi. While not being a big fan of DC movies, I was surprised to actually enjoy this particular one. With that being said, I would rate this movie a four out of five bulldogs. The reason it didn’t get a five was because although there were parts that made laugh, I wish it had a little more comedy. Having Zachary Levi as one of the main characters also bumped the score up a couple points.
“Shazam” (2019) is based on a DC comic character of the same name. “Shazam” was originally a television series in the 1970s, starring Michael Gray as Billy Batson and Jackson Bostwick as Captain Marvel, who was later then played by John Davey.
Compared to the original film the remake of Shazam has a different plot than the original. In the original, the character Shazam was Billy Batson’s mentor and they both travel in an RV to help people in need. In the remake. Shazam and Billy Batson are essentially the same person, Billy just has to say the word “Shazam” and he transforms into the character.
