Freshman Lucas Romero works hard balancing Cross Country, volunteering, his hobby of art and shoe design and his goal of maintaining at least a 4.0 GPA. His friend of 8 years, Carter Wright described Romero as “very caring and nice” and that he always tries to be a good friend.
His science teacher, Kim Hazen adding “He is very friendly and nice and he’s also polite.” Volunteering is a major passion of Romero’s. He regularly volunteers with Assisteens, an organization that he describes as, “a volunteer group that helps homeless teens in Ventura”.
Aside from volunteering with Assisteens, Romero enjoys participating in Buena’s chess club and drawing, mainly in the genres of abstract and design, and shoe customization something he started doing in 7th grade and said “includes drawing and sometimes coloring shoes” . Due to his hobby of art and shoe customization, Romero plans to pursue a career in either car or shoe designThis influences were his college of choice which Pasadena Art Center College of Design. There he plans to major in Mechanical Engineering and Design, a course needed for becoming a car designer. Prior to college Romero plans to travel to travel around Europe, somewhere he has been before.
Previously attending Cabrillo Middle School, Romero described his transition to high school as seamless. He already started to form goals like the one previously mentioned of maintaining at least a 4.0 GPA. In addition to this, Romero plans to break four minutes in the mile this year’s track season.
Romero also has a strong involvement in Buena’s Cross Country team, often scoring as Buena’s second fastest freshman and having a three mile personal record of 18 minutes and 41.1 seconds at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic meet. Cross Country coach Aaron Torres saying “Lucas is a hard-working freshman. He’s got a great personality. The guys really like him on the team, he’s fun to have around and he’s got a great work ethic and I think again he comes out every day ready to work and gives it his all.”
