As this year has brought necessary change to most aspects of buena high school life, it has inevitably brought change to the AP Exams. While the AP exams are still happening, they have changed drastically from previous years to adapt to the current situation for students.
AP Exams have been shortened to 45 minutes from what was originally 3 hours, and the amount of material will be focused to a point. The new exams will target the material that most classes would’ve covered before the school closure.
The new tests can be taken on any device that you have at home, such as a computer, tablet, or even a smartphone. Written responses can be done on paper and uploaded by taking a photo. These tests will be taken at home from May 11 to May 22, 2020 with the option of makeup tests offered from June 1 to June 5, 2020. Information about the AP exams can be found on the College Board website (https://www.collegeboard.org/).
You can join AP Online classes and review sessions on youtube, which are later uploaded onto their youtube channel(https://www.youtube.com/user/advancedplacement). Additionally, it’s important to go to the AP Classroom and check out the free practice questions and course specific exam information so that you know what to expect on test day.
Your Buena AP teachers are working hard to help guide you in your preparation, and are available to directly help you at their office hours. Kelly Herrera, a Buena AP English teacher, says that you should, “Ask your teacher to help you review. They miss you and want to help”.
With less than a month to prepare for the exam(s), Norma Saatjian, teacher of the AP US History class, recommends setting aside a little time each day to review and practice. “Focus and self-discipline are the most important things for exam preparation,” Saatjian said.
To add even more change to the list of the new normals, the College Board has stated that there’s no limit to how many people can get 3’s,4’s, and 5’s, so there’s even more opportunity for everyone taking the AP Exams. It is more important than ever in these changing times that you get the credit that you deserve. Try your best and reach out for help if needed.
